Robert Menendez
U.S. Senate (D-NJ)

"I am proud to count IAPAC, the connected PAC of PAAIA, as a friend and ally when it comes to ensuring a greater understanding of Iranian Americans and the issues most important to them. New Jersey has a vibrant Iranian American community that contributes immensely to the social, economic and political fabric of this great State and I am very grateful for the IAPAC's support of my reelection campaign."

Robert Menendez was sworn in to the Senate on January 18, 2006, having been appointed by New Jersey Governor Jon Corzine to fill the remainder of his term. Later that year, New Jerseyans elected Menendez to serve a full six-year term as United States Senator. He currently serves on the Senate Committees on Finance; Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs; and Foreign Relations.

Menendez’s story is a quintessential American story. He grew up in a tenement building in Union City and has risen to become one of 100 United States Senators.

Son of immigrants, Menendez has excellent record on immigration and civil liberties related issues.  He is co-sponsor of the DREAM Act, which would allow undocumented students to obtain legal status if they arrived in the U.S. at the age of 15 or younger, have lived in the U.S. for at least 5 years, have graduated from high school, have good moral character, and are willing to serve in the military or attend college for at least two years.

Menendez was the chief sponsor of Senate Resolution 463.  The resolution, which recognizes the cultural and historical significance of Nowruz and expresses appreciation to Iranian Americans for their contributions to society, passed the U.S. Senate in March of 2010.  The Nowruz resolution was part of IAPAC’s broader efforts to foster greater understanding of Iranian culture and heritage as well as to project an accurate and positive image of the Iranian American community that reflects our true values and achievements.
