Randy Forbes
U.S. House of Representatives
(R-4th/VA)

"Thank you to the members of IAPAC for showing me your support and for your work to elevate the contributions that Iranian Americans make in our society. I look forward to continuing to work with you in the coming years."

Congressman Randy Forbes represents the 4th Congressional District of Virginia.  Forbes served in the Virginia House of Delegates from 1989 to 1997 and the Virginia State Senate from 1997 to 2001. He was also Chair of the Republican Party of Virginia (1996-2001). Forbes serves on the Armed Services and Judiciary Committees.

Groups as diverse as the US Chamber of Commerce, the NAACP, the National Taxpayers Union, and the American Farm Bureau Federation have all recognized the work Forbes has done in Congress - a testament to his independent problem-solving and focus on bipartisan solutions.

Throughout his tenure in Congress, Forbes has focused on solutions-based leadership to tackle issues such as economic recovery, health care, tax reform, and government spending. In health care, Forbes  has introduced proposals to protect seniors and individuals with preexisting conditions from health insurance cancellation, to harness the potential in ethical stem-cell research, and to double the investment the federal government is making in research to cure diseases such as cancer, diabetes, Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s.  His work has earned him the award, “Guardian of Seniors’ Rights.”

Forbes was a cosponsor of House Resolution 267.  The resolution, which recognizes the cultural and historical significance of Nowruz and expresses appreciation to Iranian Americans for their contributions to society, passed the U.S. House of Representatives in March of 2010.

On March 20, 2012, PAAIA, in conjunction with Representatives Forbes and Honda, hosted a Nowruz Reception for members of Congress and congressional staff on Capitol Hill.

A friend of the Iranian American community, Forbes has welcomed the appointment of Iranian Americans to his office in Washington D.C.  Andy Halataei served as Forbes’ Legislative Director from (2001 - 2006), while Carolyn Amirpashaie serves as Forbes’ current Scheduler.
