NRCC Retracts Statement Made About IAPAC
Washington, DC– The National Republican Congressional Committee’s (NRCC) Deputy Communications Director Ed Patru today issued the following statement about IAPAC:
“The National Republican Congressional Committee has determined that it was misinformed about information contained in its August 2, 2006 press release that referenced Hassan Nemazee. We have determined that the Iranian-American Political Action Committee’s mission is solely to address domestic concerns of Iranian Americans, and that the bylaws of this organization prohibit it from engaging in issues pertaining to U.S. foreign policy. Further, IAPAC has contributed to both Republican and Democratic candidates.”
On August 2, 2006, the NRCC issued a press release criticizing Congressional Candidate Kristen Gillibrand (D-NY) for accepting a campaign contribution from IAPAC Trustee Mr. Hassan Nemazee. The NRCC falsely accused Mr. Nemazee as being associated with pro-Iranian regime and anti sanctions organizations and mischaracterized IAPAC’s mission as seeking to create friendly and lucrative business relationships with the theocratic dictatorship ruling Iran.
The NRCC apologized for any inconvenience its August 2nd press release may have caused and for republishing what it now knows to be false information.
