Loretta Sanchez
U.S. House of Representatives (D-47th/CA)

Loretta Sanchez represents the 47th Congressional District of California, which is in the geographic heart of Orange County. She was raised in Anaheim by Mexican immigrant parents and graduated with an MBA from American University in Washington. Sanchez began her congressional career in November 1996, and is serving her sixth term in the House of Representatives. She is a member of the Armed Services Committee and is ranking member on the Homeland Security Committee. Sanchez is a member of the Blue Dog Democrats, the New Democratic Coalition, and the Congressional Human Rights Caucus.

Since entering Congress, Sanchez has focused much of her time on issues such as education, public safety & crime reduction, economic development, and protections for our senior citizens. She has brought millions of dollars in federal funding back home to Orange County for local projects including: transportation improvements, crime prevention, community centers, flood prevention, environmental preservation, and much more.

Sanchez is a proponent of civil liberties and immigration reform. She has voted in favor of placing civil liberty protections on the Patriot Act and requiring FISA warrants for wiretaps in the US. Sanchez was a co-sponsor of the Freedom to Read Protection Act of 2003, which would amend the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act to exempt bookstores and libraries from orders requiring the production of any tangible things for certain foreign intelligence investigations. On immigration issues, Sanchez has a record of voting in favor of more visas for skilled workers and against measurers that turn immigration infractions into criminal felony.
